Charlton Athletic 2011/2012 Season
7th June 2017

Welcome to my first stab at this blogging lark.
Over the past year or so, I have been loading daily pictures of Charlton Athletic programmes to twitter. I thought it might be good to create a blog showing my collection.
The collecting all started over 40 years ago thanks to Uncle Roy. Whenever he went to Charlton he would he would buy a programme and then it would find its way to me.
Up until about 15 years of age this was my collection. I then found programme dealers and started to fill the gaps in my collections. It was then I realised I was something of a completest and needed to obtain every Charlton Athletic programme I could find.
This has become a lot easier with the invention of eBay and has resulted in a collection of over 7000 Charlton Athletic programmes, teamsheets, fanzine etc.
My Charlton Athletic collecting does not stop at programmes, but there are also the books, football cards, stickers, pictures, shirts and lots more. My plan is for this blog to include all types of Charlton Athletic memorabilia.
As it's been a bad few years, I thought I would start this blog with a look at Charlton Athletic's last decent season (2011/2012) through some of the programmes from that season.
The season started on 6th August against AFC Bournemouth and the programme doubled up as 2011/2012 Handbook, as had become customary over recent times.

The publication consisted of 120 pages and cost £5. Reading forwards that day's programme was 60 pages with the Handbook made up of the other 60 pages. Flipping the programme, the Handbook read from the back cover.

Generally the 2011/2012 programme was 60 pages and cost £3. The features within the programme included Big Story, Chris Powell's Manager's Notes, Player Feature, Chief Executive Stephen Kavanagh, Action Replay, Update, Commercial, 100 To 1 Players Questions, Press Box, History, Young Player Interview, Kids Of All Ages, Player Poster, Tune In And Enjoy Addicks FM, KRBS Academy, First & last, Community Trust News, The Killer Column, Dressing Room Diaries, Fan Focus, Travel, Tickets, Statistics, The Away End and Teamsheet.
Cup programmes were priced between £1.50 & £2 and were 16 or 32 pages depending on the competition.
A Special 100 page programme was created for the last home game against Hartlepool United, to commemorate Charlton winning the League One title. The programme consisted of the usual pages, plus an extended Chris Powell feature, a month by month look at the season and lots more player interviews.
Away programmes varied greatly in size, price and content, ranging from £2 to £3 in cost and consisting of the smallest (Carlisle United) at 48 pages to the largest (Exeter City) at 100 pages. Below are a few examples including the all important away programme at Carlisle United where promotion was sealed.
Oddities for the season include one postponed programme (right), for the scheduled home match against Rochdale date 4th February 2012 and two programmes which were reused after the original games were postponed. These were the Carling Cup 1st Round home match against Reading, programme dated 9th August 2011 but played on 23rd August 2011 and the away league match at Chesterfield, dated 11th February 2012 and played 28th February 2012.
